Default Website Lost Rankings - Is This Panda Slap or Google Dance?

My 5 year old site which used to receive lots of free traffic suddenly lost rankings 2 days back. Could this be due to Google Panda update? Interestingly, the rankings had increased considerably for many important keywords for many weeks before the site finally disappeared from the scene.

Could this be the Google dance? It is still early days as only 2 days have passed since this happened, but still I am curious. Should I wait for a few more days without being too concerned and hope that the site gets back its lost rankings?

What do you suggest me to do in order to get it back to its previous ranking? I had not done anything blackhat. I didn't build any mass links to this site. I am very careful with it as it is one of my main income sites.

Your site ranking can go from 100+ to Page 1 in one month. Don't try my service or you will be hooked!

It's still early days but the fact that your site is 5 years old and then suddenly drops rankings is a big concern because I find my older sites never do the dance anymore.

Mostly only new sites dance around for the first 4 months or so but after that they stick and stay there for the most part.

Did you do any major link building to it recently?

Cheers,

Jan

An established site can get lost of google ranking because of many things. Based on my experience, it could be when the site gets trouble. What I mean here is when the server gets wrong so that the pageload become very slow... or when the site gets hacked... Google would temporarily remove the site in the search engine.

Once the site gets back to normal state, Google will automatically restore the site's search engine placement.

To check the possible cause of your lost in ranking, you can track using Google webmaster tools at Google Webmaster Central. Get data about crawling, indexing and search traffic. Increase traffic to your site.

It's the good ol google slap..happened to one of my brothers websites making around $200/day about 3 weeks ago. Couples days ago he had it back up to #1 spot though, just kept building backlinks.. get the rankings back.

Start building quality links to it and it will eventually come back. Sounds like you have been using a lot of low quality links if it is a 5 year old site.

I have not done any recent mass linking to the site. In fact, I have not done any link building activity to it in recent times. I had left the site as it is because it was an old one, the rankings were stable in Google from a long time and the site already had in excess of 20,000 links.

Some times it happen when your all keywords are on top and suddenly it goes down. I would say don't worry It will be get back on same position. Just wait. And if not than do some quality work for your site.

Wait for few more days. If nothing happens, then it's the time to make necessary moves. You said that you don't build too much link to it for it is an old site, have you check the quality of the links? If not, maybe it has something to do with its quality.

think you should relax, jsut let google do their thing.

if not you need to keep building likes in the correct way. have you made sure your not totally deindexed? as in do you still have your site appearing for longer tail keywords that are similar?

how are your ranking for longer tail keywords that are similar to the ones you have just dropped for?

are you still showing the same for other keywords or just the one?

Yes, for longer tail the site is still ranked. I am receiving about 100 odd visitors per day whereas earlier the site used to receive in excess of 1500 uv's/day
