Default Article Directory Question

I have a post on one of my blogs that's getting surprisingly decent results for me. I'd like to put a copy of it on EzineArticles.com but I've been told by someone that I trust that:

1) EZA may not accept the article if it's already on my site. I've never found this to be the case in my limited experience.

2) Google may view it as duplicate content and penalize my site. This goes against most of what I have read here.

3) Google will likely rank the EZA copy higher because my blog is new and I have no PR yet. Wouldn't the EZA copy also have little or no PR since there are no inbound links to the article?

I'm just confused on this subject as you can tell. What I'm looking for is a valid way to gain more exposure for this particular blog post/my blog

Don't worry about #1 or #2 - these almost never happen. #3 may be the case, because while the EZA article itself doesn't have PR, EZA's home page has high PR, which "drips down" to the article page, so it might get ranked higher than yours.

Obvious next question then is... would you do this with your own material or would you re-write it / submit something entirely different. Seems like a lot of work and kind of defeats the purpose if you can't try to get your best content distributed out there. My goal is to have others pick up my content from the directories such as EZA. My best traffic source for one of my blogs is from a random site that republished an article of mine, that must get a LOT of traffic.

And I am totally missing your point. Sorry.

Edit - Call me slow, but I got it. Sorry Again. That is EXACTLY what I am looking to do. My basic takeaway is this - be patient and then blast away.

I already figured out that having it indexed on my own site first was the right move. It makes sense that having a link to the original would help the SE know which is the original.

Hmm, from using cache:mysite/page it looks like a post I made this morning is already cached and indexed.

I would suppose then, that I can go ahead?

Thanks for the article dirctories - if it says no follow are they of any use.

I presume no follow means they do not want Google to spider them or have I got this wrong?

That is simply not true.

Even though it is duplicate content, Google does not penalize for such duplicate content. You can get more information on the way Google views and treats => duplicate content

That is likely and is based on the fact that the home page of Ezinearticles has a high pr which can be passed down as link juice to the article you have on the ezinearticle site. Eventually however, if you begin to backlink to the article on your own site, you should have no problem overtaking that on Ezinearticles in the SERPs.

Yes, nofollow means google bots are being told not to go further to the destination of the links in question but it still has value for traffic. A good example is Articlesbase which has nofollow links but is highly rated.

It is also argued that not all bots adhere to this view as yahoo and bing bots do seem to take a more liberal view.

Also, note that re-publishing of the articles placed on the nofollow article directories still does take place and lands the republished articles on many dofollow sites.

That said, over 90% of the article directories on this Top Article Directories list are dofollow.
