The Dude, is right. You can always outrank wiki or news sites, just have to put a lot of backlinking + good content work in. Do some keyword research on bigger niches and you will see plenty of sites that outrank wikipedia or news sites.

Why on earth would you tackle a niche owned by wiki and a news site?
That alone makes no sense.

I can't think of a single niche I would try that a news site would be #1.
Wiki? Well, I do have a celebrity site that is #1. But wiki beats it
for keyword rearranging. That site was not picked to make money
specifically. More like a fan site. A labor of love, so to speak.

If wiki and the news sites own it, is that "low" competition?

Thanks for the replys guys..

Well I would assume it was low competition because there are no Dedicated websites for the topic. None of the sites have a direct match URL and the news sites that are dominating the term are only short articles.

I take all feedback on here with the upmost respect as I am still learning and it sounds like I may have picked the wrong niche - best to know before throwing myself into working on it i guess
