Alex Rating - What's going on in this case?

I was reading through a recent download of the Alexa top one million sites, it's always fascinating to see what sites are ranked in this elite category!

There's always site's on the list that surprise you, but this one I just can't figure out:

Christianmiklavcicis totally awesome | Online Shopping in Irland

(Irland?? I presume that should be Ireland!)

According to my seo-quake plugin it's ranked 564,204 in Alexa, has 4 pages indexed in Google zero backlinks and really nothing else I can see going on in terms of SEO. It's come down from 227,234 in early April (the date of my top million sites spreadsheet).

It's strange because there isn't even content on the site - it's a basic wp install. The name is pretty ridiculous, zero content yet it's ranking among the top 600,000 sites online according to Alexa.

Any insights welcome!

The site owner probably has the Alexa toolbar installed on his browser and visits the site a couple of times a day --- have a mate do the same thing and its that easy to get under 500 000.

Ridiculous! I find it simply amazing how some sites are even able to rank! And some sites have to struggle.

Maybe you ( and others) will realize that alexa ranking does not
mean shinola. Anyone can pump up the stats. What does an
alexa ranking for, oh let's say smileytraffic.com mean?
Alexa is 12,000.

Now traffic exchanges have their place, but more than 75% of
smileytaffic is the autosurf. Nuff said.

You want to pump up your alexa, join smiley and spin your site
for a week.

Nothing but meaningless, mindless traffic.

You can't judge any site by alexa rankings.

Not sure why alexa has suddenly become some bell-weather
stat. A stat for what? I want to know how much much a site
makes, SERP, PR, etc.

I suppose it makes sense that people are always going to try to inflate their rank on rating sites like alexa. Not sure how much good it does, especially in a case like the site referenced here (useless domain name and site)

I'm sure if you're selling a domain name it might look like an impressive stat. to some buyers

Only those buyers who do not understand Alexa will be impressed.

Don't worry about your alexa ranking, as it is not important. Just focus on SEO, building quality backlinks, and your site content.
