About 2 years ago I loaded up and spent the time to submit one of my Blogs by hand to several Blog Directories. Today I finally got back to checking reciprocal links on this Blog which is more than 5 years old, ranks okay, and I have steadily built up over the years. I decided it was time to check and see if my links were still in these directories. The result. I'm still listed in ONE yes only ONE directory. And that link is on a page that is NOT indexed by Google, Yahoo, or Bing. I complied with every rule and kept every link active on my site to these directories. So for 2 years they have been receiving the benefit of a link from my PR3 page to their Home Page. And yet ever single Directory but one removed my listing. The Internet is not only weak on ethics, it's weak on Morals. Lesson to be learned. If you think that buying lots of directory submissions is worth your money or your time you are mistaken. And I didn't buy these links, I did them by hand and complied with every "rule". The way to build links these days is strictly through Press Releases, Social Networking, and Building out your own networks, intelligent commenting, and developing relationships. That's it. Most people "Link Building" are wasting their time. They would be much better off doing in depth keyword research for on page SEO, and working hard on social networking and branding, and forget about wasting your time submitting links all over the place. On a side note I opened up commenting on several blogs in my network this week and go slammed with Spam. Not a single relevant intelligent comment related to any of the content, and lots of bot spam. Sad. I nearly always approve any relevant intelligent comment related to my posts across my blog network. |

Thanks for sharing this. I never paid much attention to links I exchanged with other webmasters and directories, but I will now. I agree its very unethical of those directories. We should collect a list of directories that do this!

I never tried to buy links. Although I didn't experience its bad effect, I just listen to some SEO seniors who have bad experiences about it.
