Default Google`s new algorithm changed this:

Google does not count internal links and does not add any value for a website.
Also the websites main page - content - should be more RICH.
And - penalty is much bigger for duplicate content (of even semantically similar).

Thanks!

And beware!

From what I understand, there were some original articles that actually moved down the rankings (like those on EZA) and the syndicated versions moved up.

If you check out stuff from Roger Rowe, he claims his autoblogs actually either stayed the same or got better rankings with the Farmer update.

Sooooo, I dunno if the duplicate content thing really holds any ground.

Yeah, I'm not sure about the duplicate content thing. What seems to be the case is that Google has applied on-page ranking factors to domain-level, and then used that to influence on-page ranking.

That is to say, a domain can now be low quality or content sparse, which'll hurt rankings overall throughout the domain, as opposed to on particular pages. From my understanding, content quality really only mattered on a per-page basis before this.
