I am a little confused on how the CPC works? In the google keyword tool it shows CPC colum. It might say a certain word is $1.50 CPC so I will use it and target it. Then when I check my adsense results it shows that word has only been paying 20 cents CPC? why is that? Also, for example if I type "niche marketing" into google keyword tool, in the list of new suggested words that come up, the word "marketing mix" is saying it pays $12. But when I type "mixed marketing" into the tool, the suggested words come up with the word "marketing mix" is now only paying $0.00 Which one is correct? How does it actually work? |

You're looking at the search network CPC. The content network which is what you're probably using pays you a larger 70% commission, but at a significantly lower CPC. As for the difference in CPC it matters a bit if you do exact match, broad match or phrase match. But Google's tool sometimes does that, gives you a really high CPC but when you go back in a few days it goes back to "normal". If the CPC really seems out of whack try crosschecking with spyfu.com or MarketSamurai or MicroNicheFinder if you have it. |

When logging into your account to create the ad you have several choices, one is the content network, another is the search network. Google advertisers have that same choice, they can display ads on Google's SERPs (search network), or on websites (content network). The search network CPC is 50%, but your visitor will have to do a search from your site AND click on an ad. The content network pays a higher CPC at 70% but at a much lower CPC. Back when I dabbled in Adwords long ago advertising on the content network before it gained in popularity advertisers paid maybe 2 dollars on the search network, but the content network was maybe 25 cents. | |
