Default Just 1500 Visitors a Month - Top 4 In Google - Is this acceptable?

Hi,

I have a site that is ranked 4 or 5 on the first page of Google.
My main keyword phrase has 33,100 exact local matches a month (UK matches)
I only get about 1500 visitors a month.
Is this within normal limits?
I was so pleased to find a niche with so many local exact searches. It only took me two weeks to hit first page of Google.
Only made $12 from Adsense in 4 months!

Is it worth pursuing or shall I just move on to another niche?

Not exactly sure what your question is, but the amount of traffic you're getting seems appropriate based on your ranking.

If it's a local keyword, maybe try selling advertising to local businesses in that niche.

Are you experimenting with different ad placement, themes, colors, etc to maximize your conversion?

Your visitors would probably double if you could get to #2. #1 you'd probably see a 5x increase. As far as earnings, it totally depends on your niche, layout, ads, etc. Have you tried anything other than Adsense?

Look at this positively though. You were able to successfully rank a site on page 1. Sure, it hasn't generated much of an income. Make a few tweaks and run a few tests. If you can up your earnings a bit, simply duplicate what you've done with another site. Sooner or later that few bucks a day will add up over a number of different sites.

I've never had the easiest time getting ONE site to be a big earner. Instead, I've found it much easier to have a number of different sites earning a small amount. Trust me, it adds up!

Thanks packerfan.

Just wanted to know if my traffic was 'normal' for my Google position and number of searches. I heard that the Google Adword Keyword Tool can be way off the actual number of searches.

I've just got a adsense skyscraper down the righ hand side in the same 2 colours as the rest of the site.

Now got a small CPA ad too that nobody ever clicks on, even though it is closely related to the theme.

Ho hum...

Important is the ad placements and the unique article.Keep in mind Mostly 95% visitors always look for top three positions.So get your site to that level to increase earning

Stats have shown that the traffic breakdown of page 1 of Google is roughly:

Ranking #1 gets 42.1 % of clicks
Ranking #2 gets 11.9 % of clicks
Ranking #3 gets 8.5 % of clicks
Ranking #4 gets 6.1 % of clicks
Ranking #5 gets 4.9 % of clicks
Ranking #6 gets 4.1 % of clicks
Ranking #7 gets 3.4 % of clicks
Ranking #8 gets 3.0 % of clicks
Ranking #9 gets 2.8 % of clicks
Ranking #10 gets 3.0 % of clicks

So if there are about 33,000 exact searches a month, 4th place would get about 1950.
This is just a rough guide, but it looks about right for your keyword.

If the sole intent of the site is to earn through adwords, put a large rectangle above your content. You'll likely see much higher CTR with this.
A lot of people recommend putting the ad block between your title and the start of your content.

As always, don't be afraid to test and optimize.

It sounds to me like the ranking above you definitely is sucking up a majority of the traffic. With that amount of searches, you should definitely be getting more than that, likely meaning that the first result solves the problem of the user. I would say your main hope is to do some SEO and try to improve your rank. If that isn't feasible, maybe you should try to find a way other than adsense to monitize your site, because if the traffic is targeted, 1500 views still isn't bad.

Lightbulb Re: Just 1500 Visitors a Month - Top 4 In Google - Is this acceptable?

First see if you adsense is made of images or text, if text, I recommend you to use a small image nearby the text ad, it can be any image, an icon, suck as a notebook, bird, woman, whatever, you have to put a small image besides or over the adsense, because that will call visitors attention.

If you use images ad, analyze the position of the ad, ads between website content are really boring, I hate when I get into an articles website and see ads everywhere, I recommend to use only 2 ads on the left, or one on the top, other on the right, or one on right, other on the right top, or one top, one footer, the point is "Don't prevent users from reading content", it is really annoying when u have to scroll down the page in order to be able to see the content just because the ad is on the way.

Try to make a layout like this:

Header
Menu
_____________________________________________
Content Content ---- adsense image
Content Content ---- block 200x200px
Content Content ----
Content Content ---- Login form
Content Content ----
Content Content ---- Adsense links block
Content Content ---- or text ads (skyscrapper)
________________________________________
If you want to put 3 ads, then put an image ad here:
Footer: Large horizontal Image ad

That will help you to optimize your ads postions, and you will make use of eye catching strategies.

If you want to earn something with adsense, you have to put in mind that users can't be forced to click ads, so those techniques used in many blogs to shove the ads bettween the content are a big fail, it is annoying, and it wont make the layout pleasant.

Good info here for you. If my sites are on the first page after 4th I generally get around...

4th = 20 clicks
3rd = 140 clicks
2nd = 220 clicks
1st = 700 clicks

And this is based on around 24,000 exact matchs per month in Adwords Keyword Tool.

So generally, the trick is to get to the top 3, then to 2nd, then to first while continuelly optimising your sites for earnings.

One tip: Put your adsense very near to the 'main section' the users are expecting to see.

Hope this helps!

I wonder if anybody has deliberately sabotaged their SEO to move down from 9 to 10?!

Interesting question. Back when I was using Adwords I'd purposely get the last spot instead of fighting for the middle spots. Did some split testing and the last spot always got more clicks than the 1 or 2 spots above it.

woah, be VERY careful about putting images next to your Adsense, as suggested by someone. Can be the quickest way to a ban if it is in any way misleading. Best avoided.
