I'm getting ready to buy a domain and I have a quick question. For the sake of this thread I'll use "shirts" as my niche. shirthangers.com or hangers4shoes.com, would they both have the same effect? |

Do yourself a favor and focus your domain on branding. The tides are changing my friends, and creating a domain with a good brand name is more important than having key words or whatever. Come up with a catchy name, create a catchy logo, and use social media as much as you can in addition to your other promotional efforts. What does this shoe domain have to do with the shirt niche? |

What is the focus of the site? If it's shirts, then I would use that in the domain name for two reasons. 1. I think Google ranks sites quicker with their keywords in the domain name (at least they used to) 2. It tells people what the site is all about. |

If you put up a WP site with the exact keyword in the domain (if you can get it) then you stand a far better chance of ranking higher. If you can't get a domain with the exact keyword then add a word to the end of it like review, hq, site etc. Don't forget to do in-site optimization such as using your keyword in your header, in the first sentence (and the last) and linking pages to each other within the site. There's lots of stuff on this forum that will show you how to do it.
