Default De-Indexing Of Site Due To Content From Other Site's RSS?

Hey Fellow Warriors

I have a site which I use other site's content via RSS. As it is a news site, I tend to get a lot of traffic from google. I also create my own original videos on youtube and backlink to the site. Recently that site got de-indexed by google, and I was wondering what could have happened; I know that google has started to penalize sites without original content by not giving them high rankings, but de-indexing? Has anyone also experienced similar things like this?

Just another note, the day before my site got indexed, I tested a plugin that made a flash pop up promoting a clickbank product every time the user visited my site. Could this have caused the de-indexing some way or another? Please advise!

Maybe they consider you spam. Think about it, very little original content and your trying to sell stuff via popups of all methods. Sounds spammy to me (no offense)

Who knows but Google.

I find it hard to believe that Google gives websites better rankings with original content. If you have 10,000 webmasters all creating websites with original content they can't all rank high just because it's original.

This is the hardest part of building an internet biz based solely on SEO and organic traffic from Google. I cant figure out for the life of me how my sites/keywords are ranked or aren't ranked or disappear.... I guess this just solidifies the need to build a list - at least you control that!

Yup, I use the traffic to build a list. I have also put adsense.

I heard that RSS feed content is still allowed?

Good point. Here is what I did:

1. Removed Adsense
2. Removed that test popup

Has anyone experienced this before? How long does it take for the site to be re-indexed?

If you're deindexed, you're likely done and won't be reindexed. Have you logged in to WebMaster Tools and seen if you have a message in there? Typically, you have to apply for resubmission and you'll have to fill out a form in which Google requests the following before consideration:

-I have read and understand Google's quality guidelines. More information.
-This site does not currently violate Google's quality guidelines.
-I agree to abide by Google's quality guidelines in the future.

Tell us more about what happened: what actions might have led to any penalties, and what corrective actions have been taken. If you used a search engine optimization (SEO) company, please note that. Describing the SEO firm and their actions is a helpful indication of good faith that may assist in evaluation of reconsideration requests. If you recently acquired this domain and think it may have violated the guidelines before you owned it, let us know that below. In general, sites that directly profit from traffic (e.g. search engine optimizers, affiliate programs, etc.) may need to provide more evidence of good faith before a site will be reconsidered.

the best way to figure this out is to keep track of your site by version control. A lot of people don't do this because they don't have the software... And that's mainly because the software doesn't exist on a public level.

I worked with a company that did have their own custom version control and it made it a lot easier to sort things like this out.

if you don't have some type of version control start keeping track of it somehow now that way you can just roll back and in a day or two will know what the problems

Agreed. But I doubt the plugin got you deindexed that quickly, unless they have a filter for a footprint that the plugin leaves..

Looks like there are plenty of public versions. Here's 7 different ones here: 7 Version Control Systems Reviewed - Smashing Magazine
