Yes, I just have to vent a bit. I finally understand that Google is a big tease. I'm pretty new to this game, have been working hard putting up sites, creating content, yakkity yak... Checking my positions the first week or so, "Well I'll be! #1 position here, page one for lots of stuff! Close enough to be good on some great keywords!" Made a few sales, had some pretty good traffic, then *poof*, Google dumps me like a hot rock into the page 7, 10, nowhere to be seen category. Now I understand that my exuberance was unwarranted. I suppose it will take some time to crawl back up to ANY kind of position, huh? Now I understand how people get these great "Hey look, #1 position on Google" screen shots for these high-ranking no-content mini sites. *sigh* - What's a fellow to do but get to work and try to get back on G's good side? |

It seems Google is playing around with their Algo at the moment. You are not the only one being affected. Give it some time. |

I do think I have a pretty good case of "It really was too good to be true/last" also. I guess time will tell. |

Just keep promoting your website and add content regularly. Only time will tell if it will get back to page 1.

Google is a dynamic, and ever changing entity, that is continually serve up what it deems to be the 'best' results for its users. I do think a certain degree of reliance on Google is needed, however, it is also important to establish other avenues of traffic...as well as, develop branding and products/services that are easy to remember.

The plus side is that I'm getting steady, if not very impressive, traffic from other sources such as forums, twitter and facebook. the quality of that traffic measured in terms of time spent on site and page clicks is pretty poor though in comparison. I love learning, I really do. | |

Yeah, Google is shifting around a lot these days. Their first Panda updated helped my sites significantly, then the second one hurt some and helped others. All these massive updates that seem to contradict each other just shows me that they really have no clue what they're doing. |

The title of this post: #winning a la Charlie Sheen But yes, it is frustrating when Google gives you the boot. It will get back there eventually, but it is annoying for sure. |

I made it to page 1 and was very excited. I was there for a week and then disappeared completely. That was 6 weeks ago. Everyone told me not to worry, that it happens to everybody and eventually I'd be back. It bothered me at first, but I have absolutely no control over it, so I don't worry about it anymore. I just continue to slowly build backlinks to this site and hope for the best. |

I'm in the same boat. Built my site in mid-March 2011, was ranking 7th and made my first $100 with mediocre traffic by week 3 (which got me fired up thinking about getting to the top 5)...then poof, GONE. I've had three hits in the last two weeks now. Still adding content and backlinking, and hoping all this time isn't wasted. That'll teach me to rely exclusively on G to get me traffic. But no wonder people quit IM.

Think of this though... I may be off, I may not be.... your new content may tend to start high and drop like everything else, but if you can make your new content work for you, then there's always something in the hopper. In the meantime, you are growing your site, probably collecting backlinks of some kind, and your site is aging, all of which do help. How about another site that can make a quick hundred, and another, and another... |

Frustrating isn't it? You'll probably go back to being #1 if you keep builidng links and adding content although backlinking is the most important thing to do.
