Default Checking for backlinks...

Hi guys, I'm checking for backlinks on my site using magestic seo.

I bought a gig on fiverr about a month ago, 10.edu backlinks... there's no sign of them with magestic.

Also, can someone explain these results to me,

Referring Domains

11

External Backlinks 94

9 Referring IP addresses

9 are Class C subnets

3 Indexed URLs

Backlink Breakdown

Images: -
NoFollow: -
Redirects: -
Frames: -
Deleted: 9

It only shows me the top 5 backlinks, and none of them are .edu?

I thought I'd try and get an explination on here before i mail fiver gig dude.

Also, says I can create a report, but can't understand their instructions, see bold below... how do I create an empty verification file, and what do I call it?

Create an empty (zero length) verification file in the root of your site. The URL for this file should be here:

http://www.mydomain.com/MJ12_A753D17...CC4494E76E.txt

Try to use yahoo site explorer and see. Truth about getting .edu backlinks is that most of them are some kind of profile links and these take ages to show up in link analysis tools. You can ask for exact location where these .edu links were created and you should go there and ping them using pingler.com. This should speed up the process little bit.

They're asking you to crate file in your root directory. If your domain name is www.yourdomain.com then you need to go to your cpannel (hosting) > go to file manager > select your domain name (if you have more than one) and create that file there.

I hope this helps!

Those edu links might not have been crawled by Majestic yet. That would cause them to not show up.

Referring domains regards domains that are linking to your site.

External backlinks are the number of links that are on other sites pointing to your site.

Referring IP addresses means the number of different IP addresses that are linking to your site.

Class C subnets refers to the range that the IP addresses fall within. It is better to have many different C class IP addresses.

For the verification file, it wants you to create an empty text file and simply name it that alpha-numeric name with a .txt extension and drop it in the root folder of your site through ftp.

some links can take weeks to get indexed. You could bookmark the links to help them get indexed.

Yahoo site explorer would show almost all indexed links, however, link:www.yourdomain.com will show only the relevant ones.

Your new .edu links may take quite some time to get crawled and indexed. The best way to verify the link backs would be to check them physically. If the link backs are there on the edu websites then the guy has done his work.

Those tools are giving the better result for back links.

Use only reliable tools to check backlinks.Yahoo site explorer is the best one. Some links can take a long time to show up in backlink tools. Dont worry about it, just continue building links, you will be glad you stuck to your SEO agenda.

Backlink checkers can not be depended on for accurate information. A lot of links do not get picked up but are still going to work by being indexed by Google. MajesticSEO is one of the best though.

Another consideration is that are those .edu links were profile links? If yes, then they won't show up as backlinks in any tool!
