Default Google's AdSense Program Threatened?

Kind of an interesting article... doubtful this goes through anytime soon, but if it did.. what a game changer.

Hi guitarjosh,

Yes, depending on exactly how the new law is worded, it could cause California residence to be banned from viewing millions of websites without first agreeing to terms.

Perhaps a splash page that asks you to acknowledge that you are not a resident of California before preceding to the website?

Sorry, this website is not available for viewing by residences of the State of California. Have a nice day.

Simple, add an opt-out button, If the folks in Cali don't click the button then they agree to be tracked.

Nothing to worry about. As usual, it is all talk and will end up in some watered down red tape compromise in our privacy policies or something along those lines.

I got to agree with Steve. I doubt that this goes anywhere. And if per chance it does end up getting passed and signed, then as stated, IP addresses from California will have to opt in or not see the content.

Why don't these politicians find ways to balance their budges and quit messing around with stupid crap like this?

Yeah something similar to this is being discussed in the EU as well. It's stupid beyond belief and it makes me angry just thinking about it. How about they leave things alone and stop messing with things they have NO understanding of. I only hope that IF these laws come to pass, that all the big sites and companies just force people to optin or block them from visiting. That'll put an end to this silliness quite quickly when people start screaming about how they can't access Facebook or Google anymore.

Problem is that people are uneducated in these issues. The majority seem to think that you can pull all sorts of "personal" info from cookies, and that evil corporations are all out to stalk them while they're surfing the web.
