I'm sure you have all seen when you search for a service in your area the top result will usually be a map showing the businesses close to you. For example, when I search for "commercial cleaning in Ames" the picture attached to this post is what shows first in the results. Ames is a town close to where I live. I have a friend that actually does own a commercial cleaning business in Ames, and I want to know how I go about getting his company to show on that same map. Anyone know how to do that? |

Hey Trent - I went to school in Ames! Anyway, the first step here is to make sure he has a Google Places page filled out. Beyond that, I have had luck with some light backlinking strategies. |

Yes, you need a google places listing then the usual seo. It also helps if the listing has reviews.

How do I go about doing that? Sorry if that is a dumb question but I don't have much experience with local business stuff. | ||

In your google account, you add it in the same place as webmaster and analytics. It used to be very simple but it was open to abuse as you could add a business with multiple addresses. Now you have to verify by snail mail. |

There are a number of good WSO's on Google Places. Check those out and you'll be assured of doing a good job out of the gate. In Ames you ought to be able to do well with some decent Places optimization.
