Hi, I have changed my website a bit and added some extra features. Now I would like my title to reflect more on what my website is about. But I was not sure if changing the title of a website is alright, or if that could mess things up or create problems in any way. What do you guys think? Have you ever tried it and what was your experience? Thanks for your help, I appreciate it! Ruth Martin |

I did exactly that once, when I decided to change the direction of one of my websites. It didn't appear to have any detrimental effect at all.

Are you ranking now? I have done this 3 times... not even changing words or keywords, but switching the order... and dropped off for every keyword, every time.

As long as you have your keyword you are trying to optimize for in the SERPs (preferably toward the beginning of the title), then you should be fine. Also make sure the keyword is in the description as well. |

Yes, I am ranking on the first page, but not at the top yet. It's still a site that is only a few months old. I would not mind dropping back a bit now if I could build it up more for the future. Do you think it would be worth it? |

You have to decide for yourself if it's worth it. Like other people have said, yes you'll probably drop short term (maybe long term too if your new title is less optimized). Nothing that can't be fixed though with either time or optimization.

If you create a better title you will rank higher for sure. For example I was ranking for 'make money on ebay' and my title started with other words, after I moved my main keywords to the start I jumped up.

The first thing I usually do for a client is optimize the title better... there have been a few times I changed it up on my own, and disappeared from the index. You can expect to be gone for anywhere from 2 weeks to 2-3 months.

If you use better title than sure ranking top up in SERPs, as well as if you create good link building your keyword ranking will be improved.

I remember changing up my title and I ended up losing one full page in the SERPS, and then I changed it back to original title, and went back to the top 3.

Try to place your top class keyword at start of title,This works most times. And it will reflect in a week in search engines. You might submit your site to google's add url once again to quicker the process too.

Hello: Yeah... it's important to have your keywords in the title. I wouldn't remove them totally. I have had success with putting multiple keyword phrases in the title seperated by " | " characters. Maybe try that. Google will index each phrase seperately sometimes. |
