I have recently changed hosts on one of my sites to a company based in India. I am mainly looking to target the Uk and have a .com site. Since changing the site to the new host and also installing wordpress a couple of weeks ago it seems to have dropped much lower on google. Is it likely to be the hosting companys location that is causing this, or does this normally happen when you change hosts ? I have only done a few pages on the site but don,t want to waste too much time building a large site if its going to be handicapped. My site is fascias and soffits |

Possibly could effect it. Hard to tell. Installing wordpress on your site when it wasn't wordpress before could be hurting you as well.

Unless there was long down time during the transer. This is my first time of reading that changing of host affects search Rank.

It WILL affect your local ranking, though not as much as it used to. If your site sends out the correct local signals (addresses, phone numbers, entry in Google Maps, etc), then the impact should not affect you too much, Google no longer considers the hosting IP as the main signal to detect the target market. Also use Google webmaster tools to indicate your main market. For further tips for local ranking, check out the tips in my post on how to rank well locally. |
