A few important points about duplicate and even scraped "word for word" duplicated content I am by no means the only SEO on the block that has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on their own index of the internet for testing purposes and I certainly do not have the investment or ability to go fully head to head with the moz crew or majestic, but I have certainly seen some interesting bumps with Google's New Algo update, which does extend world wide since panda was fully rolled out. Now this oversight has to do with duplicate content and each pages regression linkgraphs analysis, but the thing that is different this time around is what kind of duplicate content is pushing its way on through, where, how and the length of time its staying strong (in the top 50 within the Serps) Now I am sure there will be a ton of debaters on here, and I will let them at it. I am still in the middle of finalizing my testing on just over 1500 of my newer test domains to see how far I can push the limit. Regardless here is a perfect example taking from Today. May 6-2011 Google Search Index (Canada) .ca Search Query: "how to keep templates organized" Image 1 - A screenshot of the the Serps Image 2 - The screenshot of the webpage from Cleaning Up The Mess: How To Keep Your Coding Workflow Organized | DumasLab which was published on April 24-2011 Image 3 - The screenshot of the webpage from Cleaning Up The Mess: How To Keep Your Coding Workflow Organized - Smashing Magazine which was published on Jan 19-2011 The content and page from dumaslab.com was scraped and copied word for word from smashingmagazine.com which is obviously a very powerful and authoritative domain. I will let everyone else debate on with their points, I just thought it was worth pointing out, now take with this that seo in an always changing battle field, and its sometime worth understanding the advantages of short term tactics for long term gains.. Duplicate content still doesn't bother me. My experience has been that you don't get penalized for it. Of course, it doesn't rank naturally, but it can outrank an original if the SEO conditions are right. |

I think most of us understand that, do you think for a second that website has a higher authority than Smashing? Thats the point. |

I did a search on Google.ca for the phrase you indicated and your site does not come up until the end of page 3 or 30th. Not trying to burst anyone's belief's but I had my own burst when I realized how Google.(wherever) tracks your search habits and the more you click on the link to a specific or bring it up simply by typing in the URL, they will bump that site up to the top 10, often the top 5 positions. I learned my position 3 search phrase really was sitting at position 11 or 12 by getting out of the web page, using CCleaner.com to clear ALL my cache (I often run it two or three times) to ensure it comes up with 0 cached. I then go into google and change the city and state (I am in the USA) to one that is at least 500 miles from my area and low and behold the "real" serps begin to show up. Justhad it happen again this morning - had not cleared my cache for a day or two and there was one of my KW's showing up in position 3, I did the ccleaner clearing, changed the city/state because Google will default to your closest city/state or province and my kw phrase was back to position 11 where it has been for the past two months. |
