Default woo Themes v Studiopress (Genesis)

Hi guys

Woo Themes or Studiopress Genesis framework, which in your opinion is best for SEO at the same time easy to use whilst value for money?

Open to suggestions as to other premium WP themes if you think there are better meeting above criteria.

Thanks for the info.... have you any links to the deals?

Are the child themes easily customisable in Woo Themes and what ones have you experience of? What about support, is it value for money?

many thanks

I've said this at least a dozen times here, and my advice is always Woothemes' Gazette Edition. Lots of monetization options, ad placement is optimal, easy customization, very stable and never a conflict.

I came across a page the other day with a supposed clone of Gazette called 'Channel' that is free. I haven't looked into it yet, but here's the link:

You can see a live demo of a customized Gazette theme here:

More examples are in my sig link, if you wish to see how different they can look each time, but still keep the ads in the same place.

Many thanks for that.... can you have the posts as a single column with this theme, eg. the page is 2 columns.. post and sidebar?

How does it compare with say the canvas theme?

Hey thanks.... just checked out the site and it does look good. Would you say its easy to set up and use? Also can the sites seo section be switched off if you install say AIO Seo?

C'mon StreetBacon... can you add a little more reasoning for this statement?

Anyway, like sharger I too have checked out Catalyst, along with all others, and most impressed. Its main point for me is the total freedom to create any layout. And it supports HTML5/CSS3 valid code. Seems to be perfect for my needs but just one question on SEO if anyone can help.

I am new to WordPress, so not sure what Catalyst or the All-In-One-SEO plugin (for example) can do with regards to following:

Q1: Can I create an SEO friendly URL alias I desire for any page of a Catalyst site - using a suitable plugin? (Catalyst alone cannot)
Important: I want URL to have a second-level directory, and an .html suffix.

Q2: Can Genesis or Thesis create an SEO friendly URL without a plugin?

Example, I have a page called 'my-new-article' sitting in database, but want the url to read
www domain.com/sub-dir/my-new-article.html

Hope that makes sense. I can do this very easily in MODx CMS, but MODx doesn't have all the goodies/addons that WP has.

Thanks for any help. I need to pull trigger on Catalyst, Genesis, or Thesis. So if Genesis or Thesis does 'alias urls' Ok, could revisit that quickly.

It all depends on your skills and the time you want to take to develop the look of your wordpress install...

I use the Genesis framework, but on the other hand I'm a web developer, so it's easy for me to move every little bit of code of the child themes. If you are not code inclined, then you should not go for Genesis, unless you want to learn how to modify some PHP.

Thesis is better if you have design knowledge but you don't want to mess with the code, also Headway could be done for such purposes, I know it has a graphic interface to drag and drop tabs to complete the design..

I think you should go for what suits you the best, and your coding skills. SEO after all can be solved with a plugin or some of the themes options.

The URLS could be done with mod rewrite on your .htaccess file, but that sounds like too much work. Not sure if there is a plug in or theme that can manage this without too much trouble. hope this helps

Thanks, that does help a lot. I am very comfortable with XHTML and CSS, but not PHP. So I had better drop Genesis from my short-list. Another reason I like look of Catalyst is the CSS customization that is available.

Ideally I would want to leave the main theme alone to allow easy upgrades, and put all SEO adjustments in the child theme or plugin as you say. I will check out the capabilities of the SEO plugins. Yes, I could do same through .htaccess but gets cumbersome as site size grows as suggested, so prefer to leave that for main domain 301 redirection work.

Thanks again for your valuable help. Much appreciated.

Any Catalyst users out there that can comment?

Is there any such theme that is user friendly for someone with no coding type knowledge?

Looking for the difference in Woo themes versus studiopress wordpress themes? Woo themes provides a more generalize custom admin feature than the Studiopress group does. Studiopress has utilized child themes in order to allow theme designers the ability to sell their themes straight from the Studiopress website. Woo themes allows its customers the ability to become an affiliate and make money through their website.
