Only about 10% of Internet users still use 1024 screen widths - every one else has upgraded to wider monitors. But site designers still design around 1000 or 1024 width websites. Is this 1024 & under width better for Adsense CTR? I've gone slighter wider to 1038 with a 2 column layout - 728 & 300 widths + padding. This lets me get both 728 & 300 size ads side by side and CTR averages 3-4%. It's a bit too wide for 1024 monitors but looks OK on wider screens. I'm not a fan of fluid 100% width designs - many look bad full screen on wide monitors & the ads wind up with more adjacent blank space. Is there a reason sites aren't wider than 1024 fixed width? (not good for mobile devices?) . 1038 OK? I get more clicks on the 728 text ads than the 300 text or image ads. I'm tempted to try a 728 page width with 3 x 728 ads - top, middle and bottom. |

Mookie, content is easier to read in narrow columns. There is less effort to scroll down then across. Adsense wise, I have found a content column width around 600px the best for my CTR. I sometimes place a 728 under the header but still find a Content Top-Left and After Content positions give a better CTR. They all work together though. |
