Whats the appropriate keyword density for a 5 word keyword phrase in an article? I'm finding it hard to get a high keyword density on such a long phrase while keeping the article flowing naturally.

Good question... When we're targetting 2-3 word keyphrases, we generally look for once per 100 words and then we include variations sprinkled throughout the article. for 4-5 word keyphrases, try once per 200 words, but include a few more variations in the article. You're going to have to work to fit the 5 word phrases in so that they read naturally, but with what I mentioned above it should sound a bit better. Hope that helps and looking forward to any other comments. |

Keyword density is mostly a myth. Just write naturally, and be clever in researching related terms you can weave into your content.

As such 2% is enough but since you are having a long phrase, you should not fill it unnecessarily. I would prefer you to follow your natural instinct and place them where ever you feel like. Take a chance and check out the result. As my friend said: "Keyword density is a myth", so try to keep it simple ans short.

Google seems to be better at noticing related terms, but for that extra edge, I think keyword density is still important (and always will be to some extent). No matter how similar some terms are, they still have different meanings in the eyes of searchers. For a keyphrase that's over 3 words, however, I would include that phrase whenever it seems logical, but if it comes between using related terms and part of the phrase, I would stick with part of the phrase (assuming you REALLY want to rank for just that phrase). For example, if you were trying to rank "super amazing turbo bean bags", it makes more sense to me to use "turbo bean bags" than "super amazing turbo bean chairs" (not the best example, but hopefully you get the idea). Unfortunately this can make keyword density a little harder to calculate, but I've never been the sort of person who sits down at web content and calculates keyword density. Just make sure it sounds good. If you REALLY need a number, don't go over 4%. |
