Default I'm at #9 - how to get higher? - SEO

Hi,

Our furniture company is ranked #9.8 on Google with "solid wood furniture toronto" - see attached screen shot from Google analytics.

How do I move it higher in the ranking?

How does this other solid wood company in Toronto get the #1 spot, and they are highlighted with a map etc? How did they do that? - see attached screen shot.

Thanks so much! This forum is amazing, Brian

well you need a few of those backlinks. No seriously in the first positions it's mostly just a matter of backlinks.

I can't answer the second question because I don't know it too.

I agree, that you need backlinks!! Obviously you need to make sure that your on-page SEO is done properly (mainly title, heading and URL). After that start to shoot backlinks at it. It may take a little while, but it will certainly begin to rise up for you. That term doesn't really seem overly competitive.

Relevant, quality backlinks with good anchor text, from many diverse, reputable sites, are key factors in ranking.

Try using BackLinkWatch.com to spy on competitors (it is free.)

Check sources of their backlinks where they have less than 100 outbound links and NOT nofollow.

Check other similar buinesses in other areas, too. Learn the tricks from the #1 in each region.

Make sure that everything is keyworded properly like 'royljestr' stated and you need to build backlinks with "solid wood furniture toronto" as the anchor text, It's not hard just time consuming.

Make sure that your main keyword "solid wood furniture toronto" and is used frequently, but don't over do it.

As far as the map is concerned, you can easily do this by typing into google "google maps" then click on "add your business"/"location" i cannot remember which. The process is very easy and free.

If you haven't done so allready then submit your website to, stumbleupon, twitter, digg, reddit, facebook, mixx, delicious.yahoo. These websites can sometimes give you a boost on their own and it will only take you 10 minutes.

I have a few location based businesses with a physical store address (ie. instead of selling to anyone on the internet). The map that the pos. 1 site gets from the search is either Google Maps or Google Places. Have you setup an account with both of those Google services?

My suggestions are:
- Setup Google Maps & Google Places account with your store's address, contact details, etc... (make sure to include keyword rich descriptions and links to your site).
- Write some google places/maps reviews by you, your employees, your customers (again make sure to include keywords in the reviews)
- Create some targeted, quality backlinks from listings in local directories (especially the ones that appear in the results from your keyword search). Some local ones are canpages, 411, profile canada, etc...

My guess is that the map shows up for whoever is in no.1 position providing they setup a google maps/places account.

Anyway, I'm no expert but have been in your position before.

Hopefully this helps.

Best Regards,

Sean

Here is a good benchmark for your SEO profile:

Free SEO Report, good for one site, one keyphrase, one time use, per signup ...

Don't pay for SEO services! Get a Free SEO Report in minutes!

After the free report, the cost is $1 for the first month for unlimited use. After that I believe it is $19.95 per month.

IF this is against the warriorforum TOS, I will delete it. Just let me know.

some site got many customers even without seo works and link building, while some doesn't, it puzzled me a lot. lol...

so the last thing I can do is to design a site that really attracts customers >_<, the searching engine rules are simple (content + links), but it is complex coz nobody can make sure they can get to #1 easily.

I think you need more backlink.
See your competitors backlink building strategies. I'm not saying to copy them but take a reference from them..

I think link age is also a matter, so I think you need to spend some more time to beat your competitor.

Thanks you

- Compare your website with those websites in front, check PageRank, keywords, descriptions and backlinks, to see what's difference.
- After find your websites' shortage, try to fix it.

Getting higher ranking is always achieved through SEO, specifically back links. I don't suppose you have articles. Maybe you could use some article submission just to get higher ranking in Google and posting in some forums as well. That could work.

What we care the most in ranking is how to build links to your site. If you could spend 4 hours daily for 3 months in building links, you will surely on the first spot of google. I can assure you cuz i did it and got it.

In addition to improving backlins, use seo services, like semrush for example, to research your competitors.I think It's cheap(49$) for such a serious company like yours.

For something like this you only need a bit of a push so I'd simply add this site to a HIGH PR Network for $60-$100 a month assuming that'd be good value.

A few contextual homepage links from a PR4+ site would have this in the top 3 without any trouble.

No need to blast links to it, just go for quality and you'll be fine.

At present you're also in a good position. So don't get disappointed! Try hard to achieve good quality backlinks from others. Best option is really checking competitors sites...their source of backlinks. Make a list of them and also try to post over there. You'll definitely improve!

Hi bhentschel,

Before you even start on building backlinks you should focus some attention on your on-page SEO. You have absolutely no internal links using your targeted keywords as anchor text. You also have no keywords in URLs either. Fix those basic SEO signals before you start to build more backlinks.

inurl:"solid wood furniture" site:www.anne-quinn.com - Google Search
inanchor:"solid wood furniture" site:www.anne-quinn.com - Google Search

Hi

When you do your Google Places listing, DO NOT anywhere "solid wood furniture toronto". You should only use "solid wood furniture" because google will penalize you for using a place name in a place page.

Good luck

Your keyword "solid wood furniture toronto" is not in your website content, not even once. Try to repeat the keyword few times. Write some fresh content using that keyword.
Build some backlinks, example: use warrior forum signature section and create a link for your website using your keyword.

Nearly perfect answer! I would also suggest adding a few social accounts linking back to your site too. Facebook (Fanpage), Twitter, Youtube, Flickr, etc. Also consider writing a few articles related to solid wood furniture (with a link to your site of course) and submit to the top articles sites, enzine articles for sure. See if you can find a relevant wiki page that you can add value/content to. Off page SEO, I think, is very important. For on page definitely check your meta tag, meta description and utilize internal linking.

Good luck!
