Have you ever noticed a ranking bump in Google while you're running Adwords campaign?

After reading this article in NYT I wonder if what I am experiencing is similar:

While running Adwords, my site is high 2nd page on google for competitive keywords > 130K global monthly searches. Without it - I'm not even in the top 100.

I got to high 2nd page while running adwords and building links about 2 weeks ago. When adwords stopped - I dropped out of top 100. I thought I might have built the links too fast, or something.

I'm running Adwords now (thanks for $100 certificate from Google) and I'm back on 2nd page.....

Have you ever seen this?

Of course it could be just a coincidence and I was in a sandbox for a while...but I haven't built any new backlinks or added new content for a while....and now back to where I was.

According their statements there is no relationship between adword and SERP. I don't think you confuse with identifying Organic and paid results.
