Default Multiple domain names and redirection to one main domain

Is it legal as per search engines that i buy multiple domain names related to same theme and optimize them for different keywords.. and after all the domains ranks well in the search engines than redirect all the traffic to my one website and then use it to grow my business?

Hmm, interesting idea I think it is not considered Black Hat, if you have unique content for each domain and after time use permanent 301 redirect, so you won't be penalized. But I would expect some positions decrease.
Let me know the results
