I see some good blogs with nice rankings having a lot of posts on the main page. The page rolls a long way. Also I read somewhere that having only a few posts on the main page is good. I need advice. For a better SEO or a reader-friendly blog, how many posts on the main page is preferable. I use blogger. |

Generally 5 to 10 posts is acceptable if you are going for readership and SEO. Anything longer and I think readers just start to scroll instead of clicking.

As for me, 5 is enough already. Make sure that the first 5 post on your main page are the best interesting topics you could offer to the visitors with their best content. This make your front page more interesting since once they liked what's written on it, then they'll explore your blog for some more of it.

Thank you very much for all your inputs. In blogger, is there any way to keep the best posts on the main page at all times. Whenever I post new, it only shows up on the front page. Just now did a google search to find a way to keep the same/famous posts on the main page. There was a suggestion to use a future date. I don't want to do that. Is there any other way to do that? Kindly clarify. |

On the other hand, because your on-page text is changing, your home page's ability to rank for certain keywords changes with it. From this point of view, the less "mixing" goes on on your home page, the easier it is to control its on-page SEO. The best practice for blog home pages is to use unique snippets (excerpts) that don't repeat on the permalink pages, making your home page unique. In that case, you don't need to worry much about how many posts you show, because it's totally up to you. Additionally, you can better control your on-page SEO by including a "static" section (like an intro) that will stay there, while posts rotate.

Could use the html widget, or the notepad widget. Just put it above the "post" section" and it will appear like a static box on ur homepage. And u need to do some 'codings' to not make it reappear on every page.

I shall use a html widget in the blogger. I thank everyone for their valuable inputs. Earlier I was not using meta keywords and description for the individual posts and the homepage. At that time, search engines were picking up some text from the latest post and showing it in the results under my home page. Once I started using meta description, it takes only what is given in the description. Will a search engine take the text in the html widget if I put it on the top of the home page and consider it the main keywords or give importance to the text in the meta description? |

That was really a informative video clip. Thank you. I shall then continue to create good meta description and also add a snippet on the top of the page using a html widget.
