Default Do .php pages register as backlinks?

I am a member of a content network that posts my spun articles on other people's blogs; and I allow them to put articles on my blog. The thing is, when I host articles, they are put into a separate file (sub directory) on my site that is linked from my site.

Anyway, I noticed that when my article is posted on someone's site, the url ends in .php. I have never seen any of my articles register as backlinks when using tools to check how many backlinks I have.

I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time, or if these links would indeed get indexed like any other .htm or .html page.

As you know, it takes a lot of time to set up a spun article, so if it's pointless, I'll just syndicate them instead.

Anyone know?

PHP is just a processing language. All output is in HTML.

Any PHP/HTML page is seen by the search engine as any other HTML page is. A link on that page will count as a backlink, IF Google indexes the page.

Systems such as the one you describe are often weakened most by their frequent inability to get spidered and indexed by Google, because there are no external links pointing to them.

That is do to other SEO principles and it has nothing to do with the file being PHP.

In order for Google to count the backlink, it must find a link to the site where the article is posted, find a link to the article, crawl it, decide it has enough merit to be indexed, and decide if the page is worthy enough to be counted as a legitimate backlink. This is the real issue of whether the content network will perform for you as expected.

Thanks TPW. I kind of figured that, but got a little worried because I don't know much about php vs. htm. At least I''ll be able to sleep better tonight now :-) .
