Default Tiered Linking to Avoid the Sandbox?

I've had a lot of sites disappear from the rankings recently just as they started to get onto the top pages. Having researched this Google 'sandbox' effect it seems to fit the description.

So far my linking has come from using drip feeds on article marketing robot and using the automatic backlink creator plugin linking directly to my site. From what I've read this is probably a bad idea as it will have given me lots of PR0 links to new sites.

So now I'm thinking of just using Article Marketing Robot to post to the PR2+ sites (slowly) and also creating a layer of 10 or so high PR articles (e.g ezine, articlesbase, goarticles) and blasting them with something like scrapebox.

Anyone have any experience or tips with techniques like this? Is there a difference between using web 2.0 site or article directories for the buffer layer?

Cheers!
