Hi guys, I was just wondering what the latest situation was with hyphenated EMD’s v suffix’s, i.e. keyword-keyword-keyword.com or keywordkeywordkeywordhq.com Which is ranking best for you at present? I know this has probably been asked many times before but with things continuously changing I was just wondering what the latest situation is at present, I am mainly asking because I have heard hyphenated exact match domains have lost their ranking power, I was wondering has anybody else experienced this? Many thanks |

in my experience, hyphenated EMD’s are fine and you should be able to rank well with them. I don't know what the situation is with suffixes as I don't use these.

I have a hyphenated domain, it's for an offline business, but the competition was still 3.3M competing pages. I rank in 3-4 spots on the first page of google. So I don't see an issue. Regards, Valerie |

Domain name is way over rated in my opinion. I easily outrank EMDs pretty easily on a regular basis. I have one pretty tough keyword that I currently rank #4 for. The keyword.net is on page 1, the keyword.com and .org on page 2. It really all comes down to links. I wouldn't lose any sleep over the domain name. |

These days, it is more of a case-by-case situation as Google is measuring their searcher click-through rate a lot more heavily. This would mean that a spammier looking domain name may detract people clicking on your site. Whereas a shorter non-keyword packed domain name would look more credible to more people. Times are changing when it comes to domain name optimization. What worked last year does not work that well anymore. |
