Default Google's tipping point - are we going down?

If your business is based on Google you may not like this.

Take a look at Google trends. You will see that a lot of "hot niche" searches seem to be declining.

Slowly, but surely.

At the moment everyone is raving about Google Places. You see,at some point businesses will lose interest in that competition. Why?

Well, too few keywords, too few search to justify the cost.

At some point Google will crumble.

What do you think will happen next?

Post you answer below!

"No, the CEO is over there. I'm just the guy who pays him."

Does not sound to good, perhaps some other members will let us know what they think. I hope this is not as bad as it seems.

I don't rely on Google. They could fold tomorrow and I'd be okay.

I think the decrease in high traffic (read: broad) search terms on Google trends reflects advances in searching moreso than decreased popularity of the search engine. People are becoming better searchers as they become accustomed to Google and as new updates are being rolled out. They are beginning to realize that searching for "exercises" is a longer path to finding the information they want than "brachioradialis exercises dumbbells."

I think what you're seeing, essentially, is the rise of the long tail keyword. Not the death of Google. If anything, it probably shows that Google's doing its job exceptionally well.

I do SEO for living. I always tell my clients, don't rely on Google only. Go get some other sources of traffic, or offline advertising.

Well, Google in general is very very popular and if something drops there is something always ready to come up and eventually there will be newer and better ways for those sites to come back up. I hear panda messed up things for many people.

Just my opinion but I can't see it going anywhere. If it does, something else will pop up for us to make money off of. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.

Google is not just a search engine. It is a huge advertising conglomerate, with their fingers in lots of pies including offline technologies. More than likely, it will continue to evolve.

Build a list, cultivate a relationship with as many on your list as you can, earn their trust. That's your business right there and it doesn't rely one iota on Google. Why people fight this I have no idea. Mimic the "real" world, where businesses have to develop customer relations at some level if they hope to survive. It's just them and their customers. No third party like Google that has to be turned to constantly. Imitate what works.

John, you speak too much common sense.

But what you are referring to is business building.

Most people just want a quick buck.

Huge difference.

If google drops, we will have much larger issues to be concerned with. Dependent on the reasons google might fail, other large internet companies would likely follow suite. I'm suspicious that Google is going to be just fine.
