Default Where to find long tail keywords?

Is there a free source of long tail keywords and the search volume? When I check Google, it doesn't give long tail keywords, just the main keywords.

Thanks.

Step #1: Search for a root keyword in Google Keyword Tool.

Example root keyword is ipad.

Step #2: Go to Google search & search the word we found the new ipad in step #1 above, & add the letter a in front of the the keyword we found on Google keyword tool.

The new long-tail keywords:

A) about the new ipad
B) about the new ipad 2
C) when is the new apple ipad coming out
D) when will the new ipad be available
E) does the new ipad have a camera

Step #3: Repeat step #2 with the letter b, then just keep harvesting new long-tail keywords.

Include the new keyword (the new ipad) we found in Google keyword tool inside your page title. Include the relevant long-tails we found in step #2 on the same page.

Example new page title: Apple Delivers the New Ipad 2.

I download the list of keywords from GKT into a spread sheet and then delete everything I don't need. Then put the following code into the block to the right of the keywords etc.
=IF(LEN(TRIM(A2))=0,0,LEN(TRIM(A2))-LEN(SUBSTITUTE(A2," ",""))+1)

That will tell me how many words are in the block 'A2' (change that if that isn't the block with your keywords in it. Then I sort by number of words and delete those with only one or two words. And you have the longest keywords to work with.

This has saved me a lot of work.

What I do is look at root word in GA. I look at the number of searches. I then go to G and type in "allintitle:[long tailed kw phrase] to see how much my competition is. I make a decision from there...

If you have scrapebox you can make this process alot easier. it can scrape a keyword from variety of resources, from google suggestion, google products, amazon suggestion and many more

nothing to put here..

Why only free? Nobody will give you a lot of words fo free. If GKT results are little, you've no choice but to pay, unfortunately. If you're interested in, I can only say, where is cheaper.

Hi AlphaWarrior,

You may have the wrong idea about what makes a keyword a "long tail" keyword. Any keyword could be a long tail keyword, it all depends on how much traffic you get compared to the traffic from your primary keywords (the short head).

When doing keyword research it makes no sense to try to identify which are long tail, because what becomes your long tail can be any keyword that gets less search volume then the best 10 or so of the bunch. A keyword becomes a "long tail" when it makes up part of a long list of keywords that have lesser volume than the first ten or so highest volume keywords. In other words, it is all relative to your top keywords.

When someone suggests getting long tail keywords, they are simply suggesting that you get a lot of keywords, which naturally results in a long tail, rather than a short tail.

So to answer your specific question "Where to find long tail keywords?", you find them anywhere that you find a long list of keywords.

Google will not generate required long tail keyword for your search query and if you are planning to run an SEO strategy then you should have to create long tail keywords according to the niche of your webiste and thoise should be related to your services for better online traffic.

I use the Wonder Wheel to find highly related "short head" keywords.

Let's face it, "short head" keywords are the creme de la creme and the "long tail" are the crumbs that can be picked up cheaply.

It's not free, but IMO Keyword Sniper Pro would be your best bet for long tail keywords that you probably won't find using another tool. Long tails are its specialty.

Not true at all. The GAKT actually hides many potentially valuable keywords from you that tools like KSP pick up, especially long tailed keywords.

Hi Tim,

You do realize that the number of words in a keyword phrase have absolutely nothing to do with whether it is a long tail keyword, right?

Long tail keywords are keywords that have lesser search volume than your primary higher volume keywords. It is called "long tail" because you need a lot of them to surpass the volume of your top keywords.

I find Market Samurai a great tool for finding long tail keywords. With an adwords account it will pull up to 800 keywords.

You would think with so many marketers it would be impossible to find high traffic low competition keywords in competitive markets but Market Samurai is still finding them for me.

Long tail keywords are not usually available with estimates. That's true. May be you can put that directly on the search and see the available number of results displayed to that query.
