Backlinking a video is useless. It's not a page. It exists
in cyberspace as a video, not webpage.

The page it exists on in youtube is not a static page, unless
you have other perks. It exists on a dynamic page
that is recreated each time someone clicks to view the video
on youtube.

You can put the video on a webpage, then SEO that page and
build backlinks to it.

Or, you can build backlinks to your youtube channel.

You can backlink and get some traffic from the backlink, but it doesn't up your youtube ranking. The number of views and number of comments your video has ups your rank. Don't even worry about likes and dislikes, I've seen lots of videos ranked number one which had a 90% thumbs down rating.

The best way to increase traffic to your Youtube video is to find a video related to your video's topic and post it there as a video response.

You can only do one video response for each on of your videos. Make sure the video you are responding to has a lot of traffic coming in. Look at the comment list, if there is 5 post today and 14 post from yesterday then that's a good vid to post a vid response to. If the last comment was posted 2 weeks ago, don't bother.

Some videos auto approve video responses, some manually approve and some don't allow video responses. You want the auto approve ones, after you post a video response refresh the page and see if it's there. If not and there are no other video responses from anyone else just find a different video.

I build links to pages on my own site which I have linked to the youtube videos that I want to rank in search engines.

I put the video both embedded AND with ANCHOR TEXT LINKS on the page.

Anchor text = important.
