What's your method for getting quality backlinks?

We all know for SEO, backlinks are extremely important. But, what method do you use to get those GOOD quality backlinks?

I've use guest posting and that works really well. I'm also going to start experimenting with article marketing as I have what I feel are some great content sites. But I am curious as to what works for others. Please share.

Press release is a great way to get exposure and good backlinks. But unlike article marketing it is not always free. Some of the most reputed sites charge quite a lot for Press Releases.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Most of these I have currently thought about. Just wondering if there is something (out of the box), something that is slightly different that would give someone an edge in getting those good backlinks.

I knew that was what you meant directories and profile links are easy link methods, WE WANT QUALITY!

I find quality deserves quality, so if you build a quality site with quality content you will naturally get quality links. You do this by forming relationships with other webmasters in the same niche and helping others so they in return help you.

What if your site sucks and you want quality links?
You have to pay! Get a VA and ask them to find and email webmasters from related blogs and ask if they will allow you to write guest posts for them and have him form a list of the email addresses.

After this email them all again asking for guest post and offer $10 if they publish it (getting more backlinks now). Then email them all again asking for a blogroll link and ask how much?? That will get you a fair amount of links from relevant sites.

If you have a great product, just ask bloggers in your niche if they would feature you. I usually give them an email and tell them that I think it would be a great fit for their readers if they featured our products on their blog as a product review.

They usually love the idea and are happy to do it because bloggers are always looking for good content. So I get a link and more traffic and all I have to do is give them a shout out on twitter and facebook.. Pretty easy for a high quality related backlink right?

2) Blog commenting - The best ad easiest way (Using relevant keywords)
3) Social bookmarking - Only in some good quality website
4) Directory submissions - Max in 100 sites.
5) Article marketing - Write some articles related to your topic then submit in high ranked article sites such as ezinearticles, articlecase. Alsoyou can use blogger for your technical blogging and revert backlinks from there.

If you're going to use articles to get backlinks, something like Article Marketing Robot can be very helpful. I believe they do a good free trial version.

Some of the directories have low PRs, but still it's a good tool for getting lots of 'unique' (spun) articles published with backlinks to your site.

If you really want to get the quality back links then you must use HIGH PR sites for submission purpose (For bookmarking, directory submission, article submission)

That is where we spend 80-90% of our backlinking time.

You can use other sites to help.

I would also suggest spending time acquiring edu and .gov links.

It is my opinion that diversity is the key. I like to take one day and focus on forums, then the next day I do an article, then a video, then bookmarks, then press release. So you are getting different types each week and just building over time a diverse group of backlinks. Do that for a few weeks. If you can do all of it in one day, all the better, but I don't have that much time yet.
