Default Don't waste your time on $20 per click keywords!

Back when I was naive I did what people recommended and built a website around keywords that apparently paid close to $20 per click on adsense.

Problems?
  • not very many people searching for these keywords
  • Hard to rank for these keywords
  • Lots of competition
  • NO ONE CLICKS ON THE DAMN ADS!
Super, now I am ranking for this keyword getting about 50-100 visits a day and about 0 - 5 clicks on the ads. Am I getting $20 per click?? Hellz no, the ads pay about .50 cents to $2 I have gotten the odd $5 click, but it's rare.

Now lets flip the script

Then I figure, maybe I should make a site that gets a lot of traffic, forget about that stupid CPC metric and see what happens. Lets think about ads people ACTUALLY want to click on, why would I click on an ad, what would make me say oh this looks good I am going to click this ad. After a lot of brainstorming I had an idea, made the site and BAM money maker! I was getting 10-20% CTR on about 100-200 visits a day which would usually make me $10-$20 a day.

TL;DR - Try to make a site where people want to click on the ads because the only time you make money is when they click!
