Default Do you pay more attention to your domain/site keywords or you inner page keywords?

Im a bit confused, im just starting to market my new fitness blog (this is my first time marketing anything)

I know that targeting long tail keywords with articles on your inner pages is very good for building traffic but im just wondering if people pay so much attention to their more broader keywords for their entire site.

Example -

I have a fitness blog, it covers everything from weight loss, body building, exercise routines, diet, equipment reviews etc.

So the keywords i can think of for my entire site are going to be very broad

But for my inner pages, the pages that are going to make me money though adsense and amazon are going to target long tail keywords in the form of articles. Hopefully if i find low competition KW's with 1000+ local searches per month i can start to see some traffic.

Now i know i dont have much chance at ranking for the broad keywords so should i just concentrate on ranking for my inner pages with the articles that point to amazon????

Also i have a question about articles -

the articles that i get written, should i JUST post them onto my blog so they are unique or should i post them to article directories too??

The idea is to send people to the most appropriate place.

Your link text/images is part of the pre-selling process.

So if your link says "leather weight training gloves" - you'd want them to end up on a page that has information (and maybe a purchase option) for that.

If your link says "healthy diet" then a more general diet page.

If it says "health" then your main page might be more appropriate.

The search results show pages, so each page can rank separately - which means it's a project in itself, but when comebined for your main site should cover all important aspects of your niche and represent an authority which ties-in all your keywords.

Hi - I'd start off focusing on a sub niche within your niche. For example, training gloves. 10 articles/posts on those. Then move along to a related sub niche. That's how I'd do it... regards Allen

OK great thanks for clearing that up for me.

The reason i ask this is because i am going to buy some link building and i just dont know whether to give the link builder

www.main-url.com
broad keyword

OR

www.sub-niche-article-page.com
long tail keyword

where is the best place to be building links??

Can i combine both?

www.main-url.com
long tail keyword

or does that not make much sense?

It really depends on the competition for that keyword. If you think that in all honesty you would have trouble ranking for that big one, like "lose weight", then I wouldn't bother. Focus on building authority and getting the long-tails ranking. I have a site like that which will probably never rank for its main keyword but gets LOADS of long-tail traffic for inner pages - probably much more than I would ever get for the main keyword even if I got it on page one. And every new page I add gets ranked for a whole bunch more kwds because the domain has some authority, so I keep plugging away at the long-tail as it seems like time better spent to me... So you have to call it, basically!

ye my main keywords are just going to be the big ones like lose weight, gain muscle etc so i dont think ill waste my time link building those keywords

I just get a few subpages done and then get some link building done for those individual pages.

Thanks for the help
