We all have seen threads about bing slowly increasing its market share, but it has never really been a reality that they could make a bigger impact than google, until now. Facebook, uses Bing searches. Google is trying the whole +1 thing, while bing is integrating Facebook "Likes". Google and facebook aren't on the best of terms and Facebook supporting Bing, is a huge deal. Imagine if Facebook wanted to flex its muscle, showing Google that they are stronger.... adding a pop up or system message to everyone promoting bing? That could take a nice chunk of market share away from Google. Now, before the people who have problems reading, decide to come in and drop the generic response "yes bing is good" "google will always be #1"... It is important to think of the possibilities here. I used to not care about bing at all, it was pointless to optimize for bing, until recently. There is no denying their growth and potential. I really think the key player in this is facebook.... If facebook was not using bing searches and there wasn't a little beef between facebook and google, then I would say Bing isn't going to be strong enough. Integrating facebook likes, is a dumb way to calculate results, but a smart way to show its respect for facebook as a power house.... What it comes down to though.... Google has a monopoly RIGHT NOW, we all know that. Are we better off with a Google monopoly, or a Microsoft Monopoly? |

I hate monopoly, prefer chess. ![]() And I do think Bing will have a hard time to rise again. Most probably Facebook will buy/develop his own SE and rule the whole thing. Thats why Google is so upset... |

I'm not going to comment on which engine is going to be #1, that sounds like a religious war and I'm an atheist .I will comment on which one I think would be a better monopoly: Google. They seem to have a preeminence viewpoint, they take the view that what's best for their customers is what's best for them - people doing search have always been their customers, even though they aren't the one's paying the bills. While the 'stuff' Google does to IMers isn't always good, it appears that it's always (or almost always) for the good of their customer. Think about it, some of their updates likely hurt their adsense revenue. A lot of adsense only sites were probably buried SERP-wise over the last few months of updates; but it was all with the vision of better search results. When Microsoft had a monopoly, they used it to bludgeon their competition into the ground. Remember the "Kill Netscape, Kill Netscape" chant (2nd paragraph)? They massively raised prices and didn't add much functionality to Office when it was the only game in town. You can find plenty of other examples from the '90s and early '00s, they were not good for the consumer. |

Yeah but Google owns half the internet! They have their hands in A LOT of pies. Also Google has the best algorithm out there and Bing can't compete with that. If bing takes over google the only thing that will happen is your sites will get more traffic from bing, no big deal! SEO BASICS

There are often large discrepancies in my rankings between Google and Bing, for some keywords I am in the top 3 in Google and nowhere to be found in Bing...it can be discouraging.
