I've been searching for an answer to this for a while, but I'm still yet to come across a definite answer. I have a site that is ranked number one for it's keyword term, and gets steady traffic from The Big G everyday. I have 6 or 7 posts on the home page, then 10 article pages which are not visible on home page, just one small link to the 'additional articles' page at the bottom. The reason for this is I use these articles in my follow up emails, yet it still gives my site some 'juice' and all the articles target a specific keyword phrase. Now if I change my theme, I don't want to risk losing ranking for my main keyword, or the keywords I target in my article pages. The theme I am using at the moment is a very simple one, almost too simple and I need to change round a bit to increase op-tin conversions, as it's quite low at the moment. Will changing my theme affect ranking?? Cheers, Chris |

It may suffer a little at first, but as long as you keep the title and meta tags and other important on-page factors the same, it should stabilize again in no time.

As long as you choose a good quality theme, with good coding, then you won't experience any adverse impacts. You may even get some improvements if the theme you move to is better coded than your current theme. It depends on a theme; if it is properly done, it could help you even more

It depends on the theme layout, how the titles are formated (are h tags used?).

I am so happy to read the opinions. My Wordpress site was hacked so I think I have to start all over with a fresh new template. My site has great page rank which I want to keep. Thanks for the encouragement. |

The most important thing NOT to change and which could definitely affect your ranking are your permalinks. If those don't change then all other factors will be minor at most. If you do change your permalinks make sure that you 301 redirect for any changed permalinks.
