Publicly visible profiles only?

Greetings, Warriors!

I've recently joined Warrior Forum and this is my first post.

I'm a newbie IM and right now I'm trying to rank my first site using a mix of backlinks: blog comments, web 2.0, social bookmarking and profile links.

My question is: should I use only forums and social bookmarking sites where my profile is publicly visible, so that GoogleBot can see it? Or is there anyway that Google can see through the closed ones (those that require login)?

I know that I can at least use forums with closed profile pages to actually post and get signature links, but what about social bookmarks? Are the ones with closed profiles useless for SEO purposes?

For SEO purposes, everything counts, but open profiles does the magic.

You need a plan for SEO and follow it, if you can not do it you must hire some one to do it. SEO can not finish on one or few days, you must follow it, tracking, build and add more backlinks day by day. It likes you plan a tree, you need to irrigate it frequently. If you do not do that, it will not grow up. My 2 cents.

Yes, backlinking is an ongoing daily task for webmasters. Also, don't forget to get backlinks from other webmasters in your niche, these links count the most but unfortunately, they are the hardest to get - but keep trying.

That's what I thought.

Unfortunately, open profile social bookmarks seem to be getting more and more scarce. Mister Wong was the latest to close profiles.
