Default Interesting Backlinking Question

Why would a website (position #1 on Google) that has a PR Rank 4 and 113 backlinks OUTRANK a website (position #4 on Google) that has a PR Rank 5 and 321 backlinks? There's no Google Dance going on here. It's been this way for months. I'd love to hear all your thoughts. Thank you.

Could be a whole bunch of factors like:

1. Better on-page SEO.
2. Better relevance.
3. Higher quality backlinks

Just like any other two pages whose SERP's positions you compare, of course, it depends on the quality and relevance of the backlinks.

Lower-PR pages frequently outrank higher-PR pages in Google's SERP's. Not all that unusual.

And one can hardly compare backlinks quantitatively, i.e. by looking at how many of them there are. Otherwise one would expect a site with 5,000 article directory backlinks only to outrank a site with 30 backlinks from relevant authority sites. Now that really would be something unusual!

Even if we assume that all links were created equally (which they are not) the total number of links would mean nothing. The interesting question is how many links each site have for that keyword.

As a backlink provider on WF... Exactly my thoughts.

It's a conspiracy IMO.

Google is an illuminati puppet, here's proof:

I'm joking of course — I do find that stuff funny though

Yeh, I'm totally baffled by that.

I wanted to rank for the following keyword:

"how to play your guitar with your feet while hanging upside down from your bathroom window"

I was just about to get started when I realized that bloody Facebook has a pagerank of 10. How the HELL am I going to outrank that????

Damn, I'm so pissed off right now. We gotta take Mark Suckerberg down or none of us will ever rank for anything D:

Damn, there goes my opportunity to take the whole of the first page with my syndicated articles on the subject.

I think Google is in the process of updating data. So it may change in a few days.

Don't worry. Just buy a high PR domain and you're sorted.

I'm selling a PR 11 domain for $11 if you want it. PR does stand for Purchase Rate, right?

So PR won't be the be-all and end-all any more? Oh when will this ever-changing chaos end?
