Default Ranking first, and very few visits

I am currently ranking first for a keyword (according to scroogle and seo serp) that gets about 2000 searches monthly (according to google), and I get 20-30 hits / month. Why could this be? Is it because of google, and the wrong estimates, or am I missing something ?

I still think you have pick up the wrong keyword or your keyword tool shows you the wrong result.Or may be google has modified their monthly searches for that keyword.

See again in google that it exactly gets 2000 searches per month.

type in google like this - "keyword"

It will show you the exact result for that keyword.

If okay then check that keyword in other free keyword research tool like spyfu or wordtracker free version.

Did you check exact match & local search volume to get the 2,000 figure?

This is cool,,thanks for sharing, I checked one keyword to test and the difference is huge, 5,230,000 without "", while only 3700+ with "".

This can a much accurate refference to use when we check keywords.

A human search will not use quotes " " when searching Google.

Yea, definitely change your search to exact. You will be amazed how the numbers drop once you do this, but it is a more realistic view of what traffic you can expect. Also remember, that the top spot usually only gets around 45% of the traffic, not all the total searches, so you can also half that number.

I think maybe your website has not attractive description in title or they don't feel any interesting in your website. Try to make some changes. And good luck.

2000 searches using what perimeter? Broad? Phrase? Exact?

I always use Exact because it is the most conservative.

You have taken the broad search volume. Find out the exact search volume and same time select the location.
Exact search volume for that keyword may be less therefore you get the very less hits.

Dear AndreiMihai,

Check the local search volume of your keywords, Google always cannot display the same result in all regions, It shows some different result in Google.com, Google.co.uk, Google.com.au.

And then change your Meta description of the particular page, We may get clicks based 0on the meta tag description

Put user attractive description.

Yep, as others have pointed out it sounds like you've used a bogus keyword. Try using exact match when you check search numbers. This is just a function of the Google Keyword Tool, it should be right there on the panel.

You also need to factor in 'why' people are doing that search, even an exact match one.

For example, if I search 'dog kennel', and your website is about choosing what colour to paint a dog kennel, will I necessarily be interested in what you're offering?

Am I searching for kennel designs? To buy one? To discard one? To find out what a dog kennel is? To discover whether kennels are good for dogs? Did I see a news story about a dog kennel on TV and I'm Googling for more info on that story?

Unless your site (and meta description, as Egrove Systems said) pretty much nail what *I* am looking for, I won't be clicking on your site.

Which is why keyword research isn't just about numbers, it's also about intention, and then matching the content to the intention of the searcher.

All the searches are always not real. Sometimes website owners check their websites' rankings and Google counts them as searches. But in actual those searches are not clicked on any url.

That is right human will not search using quotes, for me quotes just indicate about how hard the competition for that keywords.
