Hi, I've been trying to use blog commenting as a back link strategy to outrank my competitors. Each day I have been spending hours trying to find good blogs and making comments on them. I have manually done 10 back links each day, and have done this for four days so far, accumulating 40 back links to my web site. The only problem is that my website is on page two of Google and hasn't budged since the first day, and I'm starting to lose motivation. I'm new to doing SEO, and I was wondering how long does it usually take you to outrank your competitors using a similar strategy? |

| SEO can take a while before you see results - but don't give up, if you keep working at it consistently your site will eventually be successful. I would suggest using methods other than blog commenting alone - try writing some articles with your baclinks in and submitting them to sites like GoArticles, Articles Base and EzineArticles. Maybe do guest posts for popular blogs, or get someone to post a relevant post on their site/blog about your site and link back every few weeks. You can also use sites like JumpTags (and many others - over 100 I think) to build social bookmark links back to your site too. There are many more (and often better) ways of building backlinks than just blog comments alone, so try some of these out. Be careful not to build links too fast though. If you don't mind paying for tools have a look at Build My Rank and Article Marketing Robot - these should save you some time too. Most importantly - keep going and don't give up! |

Also, you can check how many of your current blog comment backlinks have been found (it's a good estimate anyway) using Yahoo Site Explorer (I recommend installing the SEO Quake toolbar) and Backlinks Checker Tool - Backlink Watch If you have only been building backlinks for 4 days and they are blog comments, it's possible that your site has not moved because they have not been discovered by the search engines yet. You could try pinging the pages that the backlinks are on (not all at once). |

About 2 or 3 months with low competition keyword and 6-9 months with high competition keywords. This is a reason many people give up.

do not focus on one method only. If you want to outrank your competitor, you have to work harder than your competitor.

Depends on a lot of factors. I've outranked my competitors in as little as a month whereas some others have taken me longer. It really depends on the kind of competition you're facing.

On high competition keywords I've out ranked the competition in 2 to 3 months but honestly every situation is different. Sometimes you can rank #1 in a week or within a month and other times it make take several months. Just depends on what your competition is doing. Take a look at the highly competitive financial niches, there is different top 10 rankings every day just because there is just so much competition for those keywords. |
