If your market is Australia, should you buy hosting from Australian company (server located in Australia). Will this affect SEO or other thing?

My first thought on that would be that it would not effect SEO in anyway.

I understood that, yes it is affecting, in case you buy dedicated hosting.
But if you want to buy web hosting it says it doesn't affect.
I think it is something regarding the ip getting blacklisted or something like that.

I believe it may affect the SEO slightly, yes ... in that if your site's hosted on an Australian server, it may rank a little more easily on Australian Google, simply because download speeds are a small factor that affects rankings, and sites hosted "locally" tend to have slightly faster download speeds.

I don't think there are any other relevant factors, though.

But if all your market is in Australia, then I suppose it could, just about, be relevant to you.

I have a site in one niche with a very strong UK bias, and I do use a .co.uk domain-name and UK-hosting for it. What difference it's actually made, of course, I can't really tell.

Anybody can recommend good cheap hosting in Australia? Why are they much more expensive than US hosting?

I have found that it has a slight effect, mainly due to download speed. However, other factors are of far greater importance. Taking up Alexa's point I have found that if I am ranking for a UK market then it is much better to have a .co.uk domain as this ranks much faster than a .com in Google UK. I would imagine that the same is true in Australia.

Therefore, if you find that hosting is prohibitively expensive in Australia host somewhere else but make sure you get everything else right SEO wise. Then the impact should be minimal.

I don't think the hosting location affects your ranking. But the domain extension affects it. If you are trying to rank for a keyword in the Australian Google, then buy an Australian domain extension.

You couldn't spare a minute and a half for the video-clip just above, then, Kevin?

I have run plenty tests and can confirm hosting does not impact where you are hosted. I have sites in Australia ranked in top positions and all my sites are hosted overseas. In fact my download times are faster than locally hosted sites. I do use local domains and tell google that my site is for the Australian market. I have looked at hosting in Australia and it is not worth it for me

cheers

Very interesting. Surely if you tell Google at Google Webmaster if your website is for certain market it will rank higher for that country. What hosting provider do you use?
