Wordpress backlinking question

I'm working on backlinking and I'm wondering about how Google looks at this. If I put a backlink on a blog that uses the permalink to a specific post on my blog does Google look at that as a BL to my site or a BL to that post. As I understand it WP posts are indexed as a page for each post. And how does this figure into the whole ranking scheme?

It counts as a backlink to that post, but helps build the authority of your over all site. I like to get links to posts and to the main domain, it helps you get double listings in google.
