Default Broad vs Exact Match

How can a keyword that has 368,000 broad match searches (according to Adwords Keyword Tool) only have 1,300 exact match searches?

That happens all the time. Nothing unusual.

Do you understand the difference between broad and exact?

I was trying to rank for a variation of the keyword, and I'm on page 2, but I forgot to check exact match, and it turns out my keyword only gets a few thousand searches a month.

I have another question...

If you were #1 in Google, for a keyword that has a broad match of 100,000, but the exact match was for theoretically purposes only 100, would there be any merit to holding this broad #1 spot?

Why or why wouldn't you receive traffic from all the synonyms and variations?

Yes, for example if the keyword was "mesothelioma attorney"

I'm really thinking about this broad match stuff. Is there no way to appear for all broad match searches? If your website had 100,000 pages of content would it be possible to conquer a huge broad match term?

Only a few thousand searches for the exact match! You should be happy with that (assuming it's a buying keyword)
