Whats up Warriors? Rumor has it that Facebook has been hard at work developing a "Social Search Engine" that will rank pages in an entirely different way than Google. Instead of using Backlinks as the main, determining factor to rank a website, Facebook will use the amount of "Likes" and "Comments" the page has. Thus, the page with the most human interaction will always rank #1 forcing people to create great or terrible content that people love or hate. Also, as you may or may not know, Facebook has a pretty strong alliance with Bing, so you know Microsoft will also be playing a major part in the development of this whole SEO revolution. What do ya guys think? Am I just straight up retarded or is this more of a reality that we all realize right now? Thoughts? |

Seems like it would be open to massive abuse if it was only based on Likes and comments. Gaz Cooper |

I'm sure there has to be more to it than that... But as a basis, it could be genius, or even revolutionary...

Social is already affecting SEO in a major way. Tweets and FB "likes" are now affecting Google rankings and placement, too. Google is also placing less weight on specific anchor text backlinks. The game is going to seriously change soon |

Depending on where you are located, the +1 button may be showing up in your search results already. Google says that +1's will be a factor in calculating SERPs, and that this will be done on an individual basis. If you are logged into Google, your results will be different from someone else's due to the influence of your social network. Also, the number of +1's may be displayed next to the results (this is not happening yet, at least that I have seen. There will also be +1 buttons next to Adwords ads. This isn't appearing yet, but does if you sign up for "The Experiment" through Google labs. It will be very interesting to see what Facebook comes up with, and when it will debut. Jeff

Facebook won't take over Google search, or change the SEO game. If anything, Google changes the rules all the time any way |

| seo will always be changing and I think it will be harder to only rely on backlinks moving forward. It will be mainly focused around authority and the following you get in your market. social signals could be, what people say about you, who are the people that are talking about you...etc So the more you are looked at as an authority to better positioned you will be cheers Arturo |

Can be.. May or may not be.. I will just wait and see... ![]() Or rather build a few pages where people get to interact. I will be able to judge from here about this whole scenario then. Quote:

So are we now going to have to listen on our personal facebook pages about "please like this page" as well as "please +1 my page on google"? As crooked as the backlink algorthim could be at times I feel like this would only increase the spamming attempts. I hope I'm wrong but it just seems that Facebook and Google both are taking social proof for more than what it's worth as mostly it's people's friends and family "liking" everything. </end rant> |

Hi MatthewNeer. I believe the current intrinsic value of Facebook is due to their membership base volume. If, for instance, Facebook deploys a search engine algorithm which ranks pages voted as the best resource for specific keyword search terms, by, in order of priority: •Your Facebook friends; •Non-Facebook friends with relevant interests among other demographic specifics; and •Non-Facebook friends with irrrelevant interests among other demographic specifics... Then: That'd most likely be one of the main reasons why Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft, among other corporations, are interested in buying Facebook... After all: People would most likely trust, in order of priority: 1. Their friends, relatives, colleagues and acquaintances; 2. Actual Facebook members with relevant interests among other demographic specifics; and 3. Actual Facebook members with irrelevant interests among other demographic specifics... I believe all three groups should be factored in, 'cause you can't rely on the votes of any one group about certain subject areas most of them do not have relevant expertise in... |

This is really really interesting. I do think there's a huge possibility that FB will change the face of SEO...think all of us are just going to have to wait and see what happens next....

Plus with services like mechanical turk it will be easy for anyone to rank #1. I can't wait to see armys of liking commenting morons doing the bidding of people paying for likes and comments. Brilliant

if this happen then we should go for more fan pages with millions of "likes". Facebook will also not allow spammy posts too if they gonna rank websites through page like. be sure that there is option in Facebook "report Spam". such option is not available in Google. hope there gonna be great battle between Google and Facebook plus Microsoft. |
