Default Is hubpages still popular?

When I first stumbled upon this place many moons ago, it seemed that hubpages was a good way to build links, but I have heard rumours that goggles update has impacted on hubpages. So has hubpages lost it's popularity?

It seems as if the recent google update made article directories much less effective for improving rankings, however sits said that squidoo lenses and other web 2.0 stuff like facebook and twitter etc still provide good link juice.

Since the update, they changed their rules all in the name of quality content so their moderators now flag like crazy and their bots will flag duplicates so fast it will make you stay away from HP. I did.

I use it more for driving traffic rather than SEO rankings at the moment. If you spend about an hour on setting up a good page, and keyword optimizing it you can expect a pretty steady stream of traffic.

I know a few people that still like it, but from what I've seen, most people are focusing on their own sites more these days (especially since the latest Google update).

I used to use Hubpages & Squidoo myself when it was really easy to rank with them, and their rules weren't as strict. Not anymore though. I wouldn't waste my own valuable content on a site that was controlled by someone else.

Hubpages and Squidoo are both still effective for link-building and for income in their own right but you do need to build quality pages with unique content which is both informative and relevant. Hubpages has tightened up their quality control a lot and I have had to edit quite a few hubs heavily to comply with the new rules - but I like the look of the new income structure they have introduced so far.

Although I use HP mainly for links it doesn't hurt to have the additional income stream.

There are quite a few really good domain registrars offering nice discounts on domains. You can get them for as low as $3 these days, and with hosting for $5/mo, that is pretty cheap.

Go the domain/hosting route, use Wordpress, pick a good niche, and use Hubpages to link back to your new site.

I tested out Hubpages and Squidoo to see if it was worth bothering with either one or both.

Squidoo got me good results, Hubpages just wasn't worth the effort :P

Things have been changed since the last Google update which clearly says "NO" to duplicate content and to content which is not unique/fresh. in the evidence of same sites like HP, eZine and other article directories are becoming strict but they are still effective to get some good traffic share. In short the traffic share has been declined but not up to the extent so that its useless to keep these sites in your tool arsenal.

As others have said Yes HubPages still works, maybe not as well as it did, but if write good content, add pictures where needed you will get clicks, earn money and also drive traffic to your own website.
I use them and squidoo to drive traffic to one of my blogs, but also link back into them from time to time.
And as others have said you can still earn some money from them.

Yup, Panda update really killed HubPages.

I recommend that everyone check out InfoBarrel, they are a new up and comer who will start ranking REALLY well in the next few months as they're PR grows.

Hi,

HubPages and Squidoo are still good places to drive traffic to my Landing Pages.

In fact, I can place my YouTube videos, audios and graphics to enrich my Hubs and Lenses.
THESE will make the difference between duplicate content and RICH CONTENT.

I can have as many links ( with anchor text ) as I want in them, as well. They get spidered and indexed.

So they are still good places to get page ranks as well as drive traffic to my offers.

I stopped using them recently because everything goes fine while creating the hubs but then I'll get an email saying they were deactivated by their filters. I was only using one link out on these so guess it's like Squidoo and they are blocking certain subjects.

Not sure really but I just skip them now. Too many other sites out there.

I've always done well with Hubpages and continue to even after the update. My traffic has dropped off quite a bit, but it's still decent (several hundred a day.)

Most of my hubs are also PR1-3, which passes on a decent amount of link juice. Unfortunately, they also have quite a few OBL.

Coool. I still use HP for backlinking only. We'll see what happens. Wrote an article today and not expecting much since G's Panda rolled out...
