Default [Newbie] How to tell if a 'keyword' is competitive?

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and SEO.

I have done alot of readings and research for the past few months in regards to using specific tools like market sumari and google analytics to get info on the keyword I want to optimize.

So now I have all the stats and information about that keyword, but whats next? How can I tell if that keyword is 'easy' or 'hard' based on that stats and numbers i got?

Please advise. Thanks in advance. Appreciated.

It is usually based on the exact match search volume of the keyword. But usually you need to look at the top 10 competitors to assess their strength or weakness. Particularly look at backlink count, site age and what keyword they are optimizing for.

Thanks for the quick response. Appreciated.

Can you point me to some direction / guide in regards to this?
For example, how do I judge whether if my competitors are good/bad.

As for backlinks, i thought quantity doesnt really matter but quality is?
I am sorted confused to be frank. Let me know. Thanks again

backlinks quality does count and so does number of backlinks.

What you want to assess is:

How many back links does your competitor have
What is the anchor text in those back links
What PR do the backlinks come from

If you are then see that you have the right resources and time to get the same backlinks go ahead.

As far as quality vs quantity this will come with practice and you will start identifying things easier.

Do not worry if your first project fails, not every project works.
Just take action learn from your mistakes and move on.

Cheers
Arturo

Thanks vivaarturo.

I have a 1-page landing page that I am trying to rank now.
Will it be useful if I have more pages? Does it better if its in HTML or WP?
I heard that WP does rank very well with google?

the higher the number of searches, the more competitive a keyword.

What is usually considered "high number' of seraches?

100,000? 500,000? etc.?

I think it's great to optimize at least 2 or three pages targeting a specific keyword for each page. Aside from your homepage, choose one or two top pages that you can optimize. hope this helps
