Point of social bookmarking?

Hi, I am trying to figure out what is the benefit SEO wise to social bookmarking. As I understand it socialbook marking is "bookmarking" your site for others to find. Because these sites get crawled more often it will help get your pages indexed faster.

Other than getting your pages indexed faster and people finding your content via the social bookmarking website does it provide any benefit.

If I was only trying to get a page crawled faster for links would it not be better to just ping it. Does it provide any long term benefit to the SERPs and SEO?

I ask because I am writing articles to and posting them to multiple web 2.0 sites (squidoo, hub pages etc) and I am trying to see if social bookmarking can play any role in my SEO campaign. Right now it seems(to me atleast) it would be best to just ping the pages on the web 2.0 sites.

I am aware that by not using SB sites people browsing them might not find my content and I might lose traffic, all I am going after is the back links from the 2.0's.

If it is a high PR site with permanent do-follow links and you bookmark a link on a public profile then that is a decent backlink and will have the attributed SEO benefit.

A link is a link by any other name.

social bookmarking is good way for make a back links for any web sites, but try to submit on high page rank and do follow sites.

I have found social bookmarking to be very useful. Just by employing a few paid and free services, my site went from page 3 to page 2 in less than a week!

The ones I use include IM automator and Social Monkee - Sign up with this link for free account.

When you begin a social bookmarking routine, you will see that you put plenty of time and effort into making the submissions. Putting in so much of time, you might question yourself whether it would be a viable option to for an auto-submission software tool that does the job for you. However, if you want your account to be safe and look ethical at it, then you should focus on carrying the process manually. This is because getting banned is easy when you use such methods.

You half answered your own question. On that merit alone it is worth it as if they are permanent links it is better than pinging the page. Also if you build many backlinks through bookmarking (and other sources) to your web 2.0 sites you are boosting their PR and the value of the links that you have posted in the articles back to your site.

Social bookmarking is great to help get your new posts or content indexed. But I would also include some social bookmarking sites with no-follow as to appear more natural in my S.E.O efforts.

To Get more traffic of your social bookmarking is a part of that...But I thing sites should be do follow and high PR...
