Does google penalize you for cloaking?

I recently read a seo chart (I can't find it now) that listed things that google doesn't like and
cloaking was on the list.

Does google penalize sites for cloaking links? Thank you.

Not if they don't know about it. If they do find out about it, then the penalty is extremely harsh....

Massive penalty for cloaking. G is looking for you so you will have to keep coming up with new ways of fooling G or it is only a matter of time before they get you. Sort of like any arms race really like the malware creators and the malware secruity creators.

When a say "you" I mean "anyone" so nothing personal.

No, Google does not penalize for cloaking links provided you are not showing the engine one thing and visitors another (whole different kind of cloaking).
