I've heard that aged domains work quite well in google, though i haven't actually tried using them myself.
From experience, a domain with the keyword in it can be very helpful, providing you give the website a decent amount of backlinks in return. Currently, most of my websites have the keyword in the domain name and are on the first page of google.

I have never used an aged domain. Keyword rich domains have proved to be of great use to me. Anyway what I feel is what really matters is the content and SEO work. Domain name by itself does not change a lot. For example I have a crazy named domain without any meaning and nothing to tell about the contents. It is not an aged domain but is indexed on the first page of Google for the main keyword.

Aged domains are good because they will take alot of backlinks alot better and be less likely to dance around the SERP's because of heavy backlink building.

Keyword rich domains are great to rank too. Google currently still gives alot of weight to domains with exact match keywords.

It really depends on the niche and what kind of site you are going after. If you can get an exact match domain, I would first lean on getting that. If there is no exact match domain available, it's certainly better in my opinion to buy an aged domain instead of using a fresh one.

Domain names are like cheese.

They do work best aged. Provides stability and allows for them to mature. Search engines like that.

But, if you don't take proper care of them, they will mold. And nobody likes that.

Its entirely dependent on what you are actually offering in your site (quality of content). Having exact keyword match domains is a nice idea but its all about SEO through you can bring your ownname.com in top10 for auto insurance.

The best option is to get an aged exact match domain. If you can't get it, then I'd go for an EMD as in the longterm you will overrank the aged domain.
