Default How much traffic will change if my site move from #10 to #1

Now I rank #10 on 1st page on my niche and get around 50 views/day. Anyone could please estimate for me if I could move it to #1 or #2 rank.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure, that I've seen mentioned here on the forum, that the normal amount of traffic, you should be able to get from being on the number one spot of google is about 40%. So if you get a number one ranking for a keyword with 10000 searches per month, you should be able to get around 4000 visitors per month (from people searching that exact phrase, off course)

I agree, 40% is about right. Thats why we all want the number 1 spot!!

So a niche that have 1,000 exact match will get about 400 visitors a month means ~13 visitor/day? how can it make $1/day revenue?that site must have 10%CTR. it's too far from realistic. i mean even I have 50/day still couldn't make $1/day on avg.

I agree with those figures. The #10 spot gets only about 3% of the traffic according to the same sources. That's why there's so much competition for #1

This number can vary widely, but generally drops in about 40%. I have seen it as high as 65% and as low as around 10%. The only way to really know the exact figures is to run a PPC campaign simultaneously with that exact keyword so you can compare the impressions to the amount of clicks. Not really practical, but it will give you more solid data. Google's data is many times wrong when it comes to search volume.

I also say you the same thing that you can't estimate the time in SEO but it all falls to 40%. But if you continue working with this speed you achieve your target very soon.

it should be around 40% as others have mentioned... but obviously many factors have to be taken into the picture. People are much less likely to click a youtube video if it is ranked #1 then the second site if it makes more sense to them.

Some people say that first position on second page is better than high first page spots but I haven't experienced that myself. I always get a drop in clicks when I drop off first page.

Hi NastyDevil, Carl Brown, TroelsJepsen and Inner Athlete,

40% Based on what?

I'm not saying 40% isn't possible for certain listings, particularly those that are keyword queries for a specific website. But that is way above statistical averages, which makes me think you either misread some data, or you are pulling those numbers out of thin air.

The largest publicly available dataset is from the leaked AOL data. According to that data the #1 position only garnered about 23% CTR. Out of 9,038,794 searches 2,075,765 clicked the listing at position #1.

2,075,765 / 9,038,794 = 0.229650659

Granted there are certain queries that do have higher than average CTRs, for example: A search for "ibm.com" will generally have a much higher than average CTR for the IBM homepage, while a search for a generic term like "computer companies" will generally result in a lower than average CTR. So you should factor in the difference CTRs that you can expect from different types of searches.

As a whole, generic keyword terms tend to generate lower than average CTRs for the top listed pages, and the average CTR is much lower than your 40% assertion, so I'm wondering where you got your information from?

Weirdly there are loads of articles with heat maps and diagrams showing the distribution of clicks on the first page but they all seem to be years old. I would just search for "distribution of clicks first page google" and see wich one you beleive.

This whole thread has some kind of a weird assumption that the ONLY traffic you are getting is directly from your keyword. No Long tails, no traffic generation outside from 1 specific search in google. Not Likely.

Anyhow, it's easy to find the google click traffic information per serps spot. Don't be lazy and go look it up.

50 views a day from 10th spot is a monstrous number... I have like 200 views a day and I rank 4 kw's in 1st place and two in 3rd-4th or something like that. If you really get 50 views a day from 10th place I believe you should be getting about 500-600 visits a day, not impressions of your site but visits... God damn, good luck!

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

I understood it as a sort of on average for any given key word what would the distribution be.

Hi Keep,

Thanks for posting the link to that data. While that data only shows a percentage breakdown of the click through traffic it does not show click through rates, nor does it provide any bases for determining that without using some external data source.

Again, using the largest publicly available dataset (leaked AOL data) we can apply an average CTR of 54.5 % to the above mentioned Chitika data to arrive at an estimated 18.72% CTR for position #1.

Please check my math:
2,834,806 / (8,253,240 / (4,926,623 / 9,038,794)) = 0.187213736
Total Chitika clicks: 8,253,240
Chitika position #1 clicks: 2,834,806
Estimated searches: 15,142,083 (based on average total CTR of 54.5%)
Estimated Chitika position #1 CTR: 18.7%

It seems to me that 18.72% is no where near 40%. And we haven't even adjusted the number lower as would be needed for a more accurate generic keyword type search.

Again, my numbers are coming from actual data, where in the heck are you guys pulling your 40% average CTR number from?

Do you use Adsense revenue? May I ask how much you earn for 200 views?

For one of my keywords that is #1 in Google SERP, GWT (Google Webmaster Tools) says I'm getting 33% CTR.

Won't be the same for every keyword, the example above is my best CTR percentage in Google SERP for a single keyword. I have several other keywords ranking #1, they just don't have as high as a CTR according to GWT.

Next to nothing per day... And another thing that sucks even if someone clicks on my ads my metatags are not that competitive in adwords so I earn only ~30ct per click...

Altough, if you used a BlueFart tactic you could clickjack clicks on a low basis so you would earn ~50$ per month (which there's no way you could earn with 200 visits per day legally)

(BlueFart LMAO... I hope you know what word should be there )

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

The top 3 sites that pop up on google get something like 70% of all the traffic

So its going to be extremely significant and very profitable for you to move up!
