Default One of my Adsense sites has a VERY high CTR; cause for concern?

Hello all,

Without revealing the exact CTR, checking my Adsense sites, it has a really high CTR; I can tell you without revealing the number precicely that it's approaching 90 percent.

The only thing I can say about this site that might make it "normal" is that it's only had 7 visitors and out of those 7, my stats say that 6 have clicked.

It is true that such a small number of visitors isn't a good way to judge overall CTR...but that number's a bit freaky looking to me. Is there any reason for concern? No, I'm not clicking my ads. No, I'm not buying traffic or doing arbitrage or anything. All organic traffic.

Seems that some people here feel it's best to simply not say anything to G in this sort of a case; don't draw attention, etc., since their system will determine if those clicks are "counted" or not.

Could be that I had 7 unique visitors to the site, and 6 just happened to click the ads, right?

Here's hoping that nothing's amiss.

Any thoughts?

Cheers!

So long as there's no bright flashing arrow saying "click here" and everything you're saying is true, I think you should be good. Just a lucky day i suppose.

Nope, no "Click Here!" stuff, no columns of ads with deceptive headings like "Useful Resources", only regular "AdChoices"/"Ads by Google" showing up as usual, and I'm definitely not purchasing traffic or clicking myself.

Hopefully just a good day!

This is common with small sample sizes, especially if one ad happened to be a link unit. Many people click link units multiple times in one visit.

True enough. I'm beginning to calm down about it. The site (which is not normally a high traffic one anyway) has had a few more non-clicking visitors, so that or something like that is probably what happened. I agree, the sample size was small, but to see figures approaching ninety percent was kind of like "Whoa!".

Cheers

As you've admitted yourself the sample size is waaaay to small. If the first visitor clicked an ad then you'd have a CTR of 100% until your next visitor. I've had plenty of days start out as 100% only to end up within my normal range. In reality you shouldn't really be thinking about averages until you have a sample of at least a few hundred impressions, preferably more.

I'm sure you're not the only one though, and I'd be interested to know how many of the stories of 20%+ CTR are fuelled by small visitor/daterange samples.

You'd struggle to get anyone to admit it.

James nailed it. Your sample size is too small and as long as nothing dodgy is happening then you'll be cool bananas. It's when the advertisers start reacting because the traffic is poor that you have a problem.

Try to generate more traffic, though it's normal for those single page adsense site, you should do something to make the CTR looks lower.

Well, checked my account today; no big, bad warning messages. All I can say is that I've only had two 6 cent clicks. :P But it's early in the day and they came from a site which often gives a lower CPC (but is all over the place, sometimes it's over a dollar per click).

Yesterday was high (for me) CPCs on many sites - even one that usually only gives 5 to 15 cents per click gave me a three dollar click. The day finished off on a good note.

Here's hoping today is good, too (I really shouldn't look at stats so early when I'm likely to only have made a few cents, LOL).

Thanks, all.
